The Philadelphia 76ers have signed veteran forward Elton Brand, he announced.

“I am truly honored to be able to pass on what I have learned to Jahlil [Okafor], Nerlens Noel, Joel Embiid, and my other teammates, and to be a positive influence on a young team with an incredibly bright future,” Brand wrote on The Cauldron. “It’s time for me to give back to the game that has given me so much. Let’s do this.”

The deal was first reported by Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports.

Brand announced his retirement in August after a 16-year career with the Los Angeles Clippers, Chicago Bulls, Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks and the Sixers.

BRAND: Because I’m Not Through With This Game Yet, That’s Why

Brand last played for Philadelphia from 2008 to ‘12 after seven seasons in Los Angeles. He played last season with the Atlanta Hawks and finished with an average of 2.7 points and 2.8 rebounds.

Brand was drafted as the No. 1 pick in the 1999 NBA draft. He is expected to come off the bench to relieve 76ers big men Okafor and Noel.
