Russell Westbrook discusses relationship with Kevin Durant
For the first time since Kevin Durant joined the Warriors, Russell Westbrook discussed his current relationship with his former teammate.
Durant joined the Warriors last month, leaving Westbrook—who had played his entire career alongside Durant—in Oklahoma City. Westbrook signed a contract extension with the Thunder on Thursday that will keep him with the team for at least two more seasons.
Westbrook told reporters he found out Durant would be switching teams at the same time as everyone else.
“I found out like y’all found out,” Westbrook said of Durant’s departure. “I talked to Kevin early in the process, nothing after, [but] a text message from him.”

Durant told reporters at the Olympics on Thursday morning he had yet to congratulate Westbrook on his extension. Westbrook said the two will eventually get back in touch.
“We’ve been together eight years. You don’t throw that away,” Westbrook said. “We definitely will talk eventually.”
