Video: Damian Lillard, Trail Blazers rookies dance the 'Dougie'

*****

By Ben Golliver

We have just about hit the wall when it comes to preseason dance-offs in the NBA. As the rookie hazing ritual has spread coast to coast, we've heard most of the songs, seen most of the moves and laughed at plenty of awkwardness along the way.

It was the Blazers' rookies turn at the team's annual Fan Fest scrimmage in Portland on Sunday night. In front of 7,000-plus fans, lottery picks Damian Lillard, Meyers Leonard led a massive group of first-year players that also included European imports Joel Freeland and Victor Claver, as well as training camp invites like Justin Holiday and Dallas Lauderdale. Their task: the "Dougie" -- a song that probably hasn't been played anywhere besides rookie dance-offs at any point since 2010.

Lillard, predictably, stole the show, coming out last to save his teammates, who ranged from confused to shy to ... just clapping. Lillard broke it down so well he left one veteran teammate, Ronnie Price, wondering how the No. 6 pick in the 2012 draft had spent his last four years at Weber State.

"It just shows you, not a lot of studying going on in college," Price deadpanned. "It's a lot of YouTube videos and people picking up on the new dances. That's what's going on these days."

Informed of Price's comments, Lillard just smiled.

"I have fun dancing," Lillard said. "I enjoy it. I'm always on the Internet and on YouTube, looking up all dances. In my family, that's what everybody does. I enjoy dancing."
