It won't be opening night, but it still promises to be special.

The NBA has announced that Thursday's game between the Knicks and Nets at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn -- postponed on Wednesday due to the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy -- has been rescheduled for Monday, Nov. 26 at 7 p.m. ET.

The rescheduled game now gives both the Knicks and Nets a new back-to-back on Nov. 26 and Nov. 27. Brooklyn will host the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday before hosting the Knicks on Monday; the Knicks will host the Detroit Pistons at Madison Square Garden on Sunday before facing the Nets in Brooklyn on Monday.

Sandy has caused at least 33 deaths, according to CNN, and New York City has dealt with widespread flooding and power outages. Subway service has also been suspended. The league made the decision to cancel the highly-anticipated opener in Brooklyn after consulting with New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg.

“[New York] Mayor Bloomberg informed us this afternoon that after further analysis of the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy that he felt it was in the best interests of the city of New York, the teams and our fans that we postpone the Knicks-Nets game scheduled for Thursday night,” NBA Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver said in Wednesday's statement. "Our thoughts are with all those affected by this devastating storm."

Excitement for the game was particularly great as the Nets are entering their first season in Brooklyn after relocating from Newark, New Jersey. The New York Post reported last week that tickets for the Knicks/Nets game were selling for an average of $800 on the secondary market, with a courtside seat drawing up to $8,100.

The Knicks will host the Miami Heat at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan on Friday night per the original schedule.
