Video: Clippers' Griffin blocks Nets' Williams by snatching shot from air

*****

By Ben Golliver

Clippers All-Star forward Blake Griffin is known for his jaw-dropping, high-flying plays, but the highlights almost always come on the offensive end. During a Friday game against the Nets at the Barclays Center, Griffin made a little magic happen on the other end.

Nets All-Star guard Deron Williams drove hard to his left, attacking the post past Chris Paul. Griffin and Clippers center Ryan Hollins came over to provide rim protection from the weakside. Williams went for it, undeterred by their dual presence, attempting to slam a right-handed dunk over the top of both. Griffin met him at the apex with his own right hand, snatching the ball clean from Williams before falling back to the ground, possession in hand, and outletting to Paul before he hit the deck. The Clippers squandered the transition opportunity with a turnover, but that didn't take any of the luster off of Griffin's gem. The block kept the score knotted at 25 just before the end of the first quarter.

In case you were wondering, Griffin had registered just 101 blocks in 159 career regular season appearances entering Friday night's game, good for a 0.6 career average.

Update: Below, check out a replay of Griffin's block that uses the NBA's new "Phantom Cam" super slow-motion technology.
