Trail Blazers rookie point guard Damian Lillard has taken the NBA by storm, averaging 19.1 points and 6.1 assists for a 6-9 team. But on Wednesday he took to Twitter to express a strange fear: statues. Before the Blazers' 84-82 loss to the Wizards, Lillard tweeted the following:

The tweet generated a reaction on Twitter, prompting Lillard to defend himself:

Ah, that makes perfect sense. Still, Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today Sports felt compelled to follow up with Lillard shortly before the Wizards-Blazers tipped off:

"I've always been scared of historic stuff like that. If I see statues of Jesus, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr. - all that stuff kind of gives me a funny feeling," Lillard said.

...

Even at Lake Oswego (near Portland), I drive past the cemetery, and there's a statue of Jesus with his hands up. That even scared me. I don't mess with statues no more. It's the idea that they're from so far back, and so big in our history. Just to see something that looks so close to them, it's weird. It freaks me out."

If history is the issue, Lillard might want to slow down his Rookie of the Year pace; the ROY receives the "historic" Eddie Gottlieb trophy.
