Nuggets' Faried posts double-double after vomiting during fourth quarter
By Ben Golliver
Nuggets forward Kenneth Faried inspired equal parts awe, sympathy and "ewwwww" during Denver's 112-106 home win over San Antonio on Tuesday night. The good: Faried finished with a gaudy double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds in 29 minutes. The bad: Duncan often had his way with the second-year pro, finishing with 31 points, 18 rebounds, six assists, five blocks and two steals in 40 minutes.
The ugly is what will be remembered, though, as cameras caught Faried nearly vomiting on Denver's bench with a little more than nine minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. His hurling sent teammates Kosta Koufos and Ty Lawson running for cover and the towel he attempted to use to cover his mouth seemed overmatched by the task.
The Denver Post reported that Faried was playing through a "cold and flu" and that he wound up vomiting into a trash can during the game.
“(It was) a grind, yes, a top to bottom grind,” he said after the Nuggets’ huge win against the Spurs. “I kept fighting, but it was so hard to produce like I could have. Looking at the numbers, everybody would say I did pretty good. Personally, I believe I can do even better if I was healthy.
“I’m happy we won, but I’m not content. We still have a long way to go in the standings. As long as we take care of home, we should be fine.”
Faried, 23, was the No. 22 pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. He is averaging 12.0 points and 10.0 rebounds in 29.5 minutes per game this season and was recognized as the Western Conference Player of the Week back in November. Video via YouTube user @Rafael Canton | Hat tip on the video: @afigman
