Pacers' Green posterizes another opponent, this time Cavs' Samuels
By Ben Golliver
Gerald Green just keeps going higher, and higher, and higher.
During garbage time of a Wednesday night win over the Jazz, Green elevated and got his head level with the rim before uncorking a powerful slam. On Friday, the former Slam Dunk Contest champion threw down over two Cavaliers defenders during the fourth quarter of a 99-89 road win.
We should have seen trouble coming when Green isolated against the slower-footer Samardo Samuels on the perimeter. Green created a driving lane with a left-to-right crossover dribble and then gathered himself in the midst of three Cavaliers defenders for takeoff. Tristan Thompson came over to provide weakside help, but he had no chance as Green was already going straight up and over Samuels for a massive right-hand poster. Green couldn't control his elation afterwards, and was dinged with a taunting technical.
Green finished with 14 points in 16 minutes off of Frank Vogel's bench, but his coach wasn't thrilled about the whoofing afterwards, according to the Indianapolis Star.
“One of the best dunks I’ve ever seen,” Vogel said. “I don’t want a tech after a dunk like that.”
Roy Hibbert scored a team-high 18 points and David West added 15 points and 10 rebounds. The Cavaliers were led by Kyrie Irving, who finished with 17 points and five assists but committed six turnovers.
Green made headlines earlier this year for this leaked photo from Pacers practice, which shows him gazing down into the rim.
