Cavaliers' Irving hits last-second game-winner vs. Bobcats

By Ben Golliver

There's no question who Kyrie Irving wants to have the ball with the game on the line: Kyrie Irving.

The young Cavaliers guard called his own number and dialed up a last-second game-winner to defeat the Bobcats 106-104 at Time Warner Cable Arena on Friday night.

With the score tied at 104-104 with less than 15 seconds remaining, Cleveland went to a 1-4 spread set to isolate Irving at the top of the key against Jeff Taylor. Irving carefully milked the clock and, when the Bobcats didn't send a second help defender, he attacked off the dribble to his right with less than five seconds remaining in the game.

Irving nearly turned the corner, getting into the paint inside the free-throw line, before he slammed on the brakes, creating enough separation from Taylor so that he could launch a pull-up jumper. The ball swished through cleanly with one second remaining. The Bobcats could not score on their ensuing possession, giving Irving his last-second game-winner and the perfect ending to a sensational night.

Irving, 20, finished with a game-high 33 points, six assists, five rebounds, four steals and three blocks in 38 minutes. Tristan Thompson added 19 points and 13 rebounds for the Cavaliers. Ben Gordon led the Bobcats with 27 points off the bench.

Cleveland improved to 8-26 with the win; Charlotte dropped to 8-24.
