Spurs' Tim Duncan listed day-to-day after spraining knee against Wizards

By Ben Golliver

Spurs big man Tim Duncan suffered a sprained left knee in a scary scene during a 96-86 win over the Wizards on Saturday night.

With a little more than four minutes remaining in the second quarter and the Spurs leading 38-23, Duncan came across the paint to provide help defense on a Martell Webster drive. Teammate Kawhi Leonard knocked the ball loose as Webster rose for the shot, and the Wizards forward fell onto the back of Duncan's left leg as he came back to the court after losing the ball. Duncan lay on the court in pain, holding his left leg, and did not return to the game.

The Spurs announced Saturday that Duncan suffered a sprained right ankle in addition to his knee injury. The San Antonio Express-News reported that Duncan left the arena walking under his own power and that he would be re-examined in the coming days.

On Sunday, the Spurs announced that Duncan will be listed day-to-day with a "sore left knee" after an MRI revealed "no structural damage".

Duncan, who was named to the Western Conference All-Star team in January, finished with eight points, five rebounds, two assists and one block. The Spurs were led by Tony Parker, who finished with 19 points and 12 assists. John Wall led the Wizards with 21 points and nine assists.

The Spurs improved to a league-best 38-11 with the win. The Wizards fell to 11-35 with the loss.
