Video: Nets' Mirza Teletovic airballs three straight shots in 40 seconds

By Ben Golliver

Now would be a pretty good time for Nets forward Mirza Teletovic to claim he's suffering from a minor elbow injury.

Teletovic, a 27-year-old rookie from Bosnia, managed an incredibly unusual (and unfortunate) feat: He airballed three consecutive shots in just 40 seconds during the fourth quarter of Brooklyn's 93-90 win over the Detroit on Wednesday night.

The windy shooting performance began with 9:06 remaining in the final period and the Nets leading 74-73. After setting a high screen, Teletovic popped out beyond the arc, launching a three-pointer over the outstretched arm of Jonas Jerebko that ended up way right, landing on the baseline and bouncing out of bounds.

On the Nets' next possession, Teletovic attempted to drive past Jerebko before changing his mind and pulling up his dribble just outside the paint. After hopping backward, he attempted a fallback jumper that fell well short, barely grazing the bottom of the outside of the net. Pistons guard Brandon Knight claimed the "rebound." Teletovic didn't waste any time completing the dubious hat trick. On the Nets' next trip up the court, he fired another three from nearly the same spot as the first one, again over Jerebko. This one landed well short, falling easily into the hands of Pistons center Greg Monroe for another "rebound."

At the next dead ball, Nets coach P.J. Carlesimo subbed out Teletovic for Gerald Wallace, ending his evening for good.

Those three airballs were the entirety of Teletovic's statistical output. He finished with zero points, zero rebounds, zero assists, zero steals, zero blocks, zero fouls and three airballs on three attempts in four minutes. Amazing.

Brooklyn improved to 29-20 with the win. Detroit fell to 18-32 with the loss.
