Warriors' Stephen Curry explodes for 54 points in loss to Knicks

By Ben Golliver

Warriors guard Stephen Curry exploded for a career-high 54 points in a 109-105 loss to the Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday

Curry set the NBA's season high for points, eclipsing Thunder forward Kevin Durant's 52 points in an overtime win over the Mavericks on Jan. 18.

"I felt good all night," Curry said, according to the Associated Press. "Obviously played the whole game, so was just trying to keep my legs underneath me on the offensive end, and you know, just stick to the game on the defensive end. Once I started seeing that 3-ball go down in transition, all sorts of spots on the floor, I knew it was going to be a good night.''

The fourth-year guard shot 18-for-28 (64.3 percent) from the field, hit a franchise-record 11 three-pointers in 13 attempts and was a 7-for-7 from the free-throw line. Curry outscored his teammates 54-51 and made as many shots as them combined (18). He added seven assists, six rebounds and three steals in 48 minutes.

The Associated Press noted that Curry's outburst was the most in a losing effort in more than six years. Lakers guard Kobe Bryant had 58 points in a Dec. 29, 2006, loss to the Bobcats.

Curry's shot chart (below) was a thing of beauty.
