Video: Nuggets fans boo Carmelo Anthony in return to Denver

By Ben Golliver

Carmelo Anthony would surely like to forget Wednesday night, from start to finish.

Making his first return trip to Denver's Pepsi Center since the Nuggets traded him to the Knicks in 2011, Anthony was booed loudly during player introductions and throughout the first quarter.

He then departed the game early because of ongoing issues with his ailing knee, telling reporters afterwards that he would leave the Knicks' road trip and return to New York to receive treatment.

In his absence, the Nuggets blew out the Knicks 117-94. The Pepsi Crowd chanted "Who needs Melo?" and "Where is Melo?" as the game grew increasingly out of hand. While it was probably little consolation, the Denver Post reported that the Nuggets did show a short video on the jumbotron honoring Anthony and other Knicks who used to play in Denver.

Anthony finished with nine points (on three-for-12 shooting), five rebounds and three assists in 22 minutes.

CBSSports.com reported that he tried to take the tough night in stride.

Anthony called the experience, "fun" after the game, saying it was "good to be back in (Pepsi Center); see some people, see some old friends, see some old faces."

"I wish the outcome would have been a little bit different but it is what it is," Anthony said.

Lakers center Dwight Howard also received harsh treatment from Magic fans in his first return to Orlando following a 2012 trade on Tuesday. Next up is Knicks guard Raymond Felton, who returns to Portland, where he spent a disappointing 2011-12 season, on Thursday.
