Bulls' Nate Robinson ejected for flagrant foul on Pacers' Lance Stephenson

By Ben Golliver

Bulls guard Nate Robinson was assessed a flagrant foul 2 and ejected for pulling Pacers guard Lance Stephenson out of the air from behind during Chicago's 87-84 win at the United Center on Saturday.

With the score tied at 66 and less than one minute remaining in the third quarter, Robinson lost control as he drove through the paint. Stephenson took off on the break and Robinson gave chase, hoping to prevent an uncontested dunk. Stephenson rose from roughly 10 feet out out from the hoop and Robinson used his left hand to grab Stephenson's left shoulder and his right hand to grab Stephenson's right arm, pulling down to prevent the attempt from occurring and sending Stephenson sprawling backwards to the court, where he lay for some time after the play.

The play was initially ruled a flagrant foul one but was upgraded to a flagrant foul two upon video review.

The flagrant foul 2 designation applies to fouls that are deemed both “unnecessary and excessive.” All flagrant fouls are reviewed by the NBA league office and are subject to possible discipline including a fine and/or suspension.

Robinson departed with nine points (on four-for-eight shooting), five assists, one rebound, one assist and one block in 20 minutes.

Stephenson was able to continue playing after the foul, and he finished with 10 points (on two-for-five shooting), three rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block in 35 minutes.

Chicago, the Eastern Conference's No. 6 seed, improved to 37-31 with the win. Indiana, the East's No. 3 seed, dropped to 43-27.
