Pondexter collected a defensive rebound and pushed the ball past halfcourt as the final seconds of the third quarter ticked away. Weaving through a number of Thunder players, Pondexter stopped short to avoid a fly-by from Derek Fisher before collecting himself in midair to launch a push-shot from just inside halfcourt. The try swished home perfectly just as the buzzer sounded, giving Memphis a 73-64 lead entering the final period.
Oklahoma City would mount a fourth-quarter comeback capped by the go-ahead bucket from Kevin Durant with just 11 seconds remaining.
Pondexter finished with 13 points (on four-for-eight shooting), five rebounds and three assists in 25 minutes off of Lionel Hollins' bench. Marc Gasol had a team-high 20 points (on eight-for-14 shooting) and 10 rebounds in 40 minutes for the Grizzlies in a losing effort. Durant finished with a game-high 35 points (on 13-for-26 shooting), 15 rebounds and six assists in 44 minutes for the Thunder. The Thunder take a 1-0 series lead into Game 2 on Tuesday night.
