The Spurs announced Sunday that reserve guard Patty Mills will not be available for the remainder of the 2013 NBA Finals against the Heat after undergoing surgery to remove an abscess on his foot.

The San Antonio Spurs today announced that guard Patty Mills will miss the remainder of the 2013 NBA Finals. Mills had an infection in his right foot and, in turn, an abscess developed between his fourth and fifth toes. The abscess was removed during a short out-patient surgery on Friday afternoon.

Mills, 24, saw mop-up duty in San Antonio's Game 2 blowout loss and Game 3 blowout win. Best known for his enthusiastic and relentless cheerleading on the bench, Mills averaged 5.1 points and 1.1 assists in 11.3 minutes during 58 regular season appearances and 1.3 points in 3.4 minutes over nine postseason appearances.

An end-of-the-bench reserve who doesn't see much time in a backcourt that includes Tony Parker, Danny Green, Manu Ginobili, Gary Neal and Cory Joseph, Mills holds a $1.1 million player option for next season.

Of greater importance to San Antonio's title hopes, Parker is dealing with a hamstring strain he suffered during Game 3. The All-Star point guard said on Saturday that he hoped to be close to 100 percent for Game 5 on Sunday.

The Spurs and Heat are tied at two games apiece in the Finals entering Game 5 in San Antonio's AT&T Center. The series will shift to Miami for Game 6 on Tuesday and, if necessary, Game 7 on Thursday.
