Rudy Gobert selected No. 27 by Jazz in NBA draft
Bio: France | 20 years old | Center
Vitals: 7-2, 238 pounds
2012-13 Statistics: 8.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, 73 percent shooting for Cholet Basket in France (per NBA.com)
Strengths: You can't teach size. Gobert set combine records with a 7-9 wingspan and 9-7 standing reach. That package of height and length, along with his mobility, makes Gobert a potentially fearsome rim protector.
Weaknesses: How long before the Frenchman is ready to make an impact in the NBA? He needs to fill out both his frame and his game. Gobert doesn't have a mid-range jumper, and his post game is raw. Utah will have to be patient as he develops, and hope that he could at least have an effect on the defensive end while his offense comes along.
What Scouts Say: "If you take him too high and he fails, you are going to look like an idiot." One scout compared him to Alexis Ajinca, a 7-foot, 220-pound Frenchman who went 20th in the 2008 draft and played only 71 games over three NBA seasons. Team Fit: With Al Jefferson's future in Salt Lake City up in the air, grabbing a guy with incredible size and wingspan makes some sense. Gobert could play behind Enes Kanter (what an interesting international center combo that would be) and Derrick Favors in the frontcourt should the Jazz decide not to re-up Jefferson. Maybe some D-League time in his future, too?
