Video: Kobe Bryant leaps off high dive

Kobe Bryant has made a career out of defying what is expected. He disregards defensive fundamentals to gamble on a whim. He courts double teams in order to shoot over the top of them. He has worn on his superstar teammates. He has inflated expectations for his return from injury by publicly aiming to come back in record time. And, of late, he has cultivated a social media image after previously scoffing at such platforms.

He also, apparently, has taken his rehabilitation from a torn Achilles tendon to unanticipated new heights. On his new Vine account, Bryant posted a clip showing off his jump from a diving platform (click the image above to view) -- a strange risk for a player in recovery to take.

A standard high-diving platform is 33 feet (Kobe thought his jump was 40 feet), no small drop for a high-value player just a few months removed from a major foot surgery. But Bryant is nothing if not defiant, and luckily no worse for wear. That surely won't make Lakers fans any less nervous as they watch Bryant's plunge on loop, though Kobe's obsession with getting back on the court -- and by extension, his working knowledge of his medical clearance -- should quash most concern.
