An X-ray confirmed the injury, and Burke will be evaluated on Monday before a recovery timeline is established.
Update: The Deseret News reports Monday that Burke will be sidelined for 8-to-12 weeks, placing his return date sometime in December. He is expected to miss somewhere between 19 and 34 games.
The rebuilding Jazz plan to lean heavily on Burke as their starting point guard this season. Burke had started all three preseason games for the Jazz, tallying 12 points and three assists against the Warriors and posting seven points and five assists against the Blazers. He departed Saturday's game in the second quarter with two points and four assists.
Coach Tyrone Corbin turned to reserve guards John Lucas III, Scott Machado and Justin Holiday following Burke's injury. Of the three, Lucas III is the only player who currently has a guaranteed contract for the 2013-14 season.
Burke, 20, was the No. 9 pick in the 2013 draft after spending two seasons at Michigan, where he earned National Player of the Year, First-Team All-American and Big Ten Player of the Year honors as a sophomore. The Jazz acquired Burke in a draft day trade with the Timberwolves. Oddsmakers have regarded Burke as one of the favorites to win the 2014 Rookie of the Year award.
