The ring, which reportedly cost Humphries about $2 million in 2011, was expected to sell for $300,000 to $500,000.
Listed as "An impressive Diamond Ring, by Lorraine Schwartz," it was included in Christie's "Magnificent Jewels" collection that went on the block in New York City. The ring's lot text noted that it was "property of a gentleman" and that a portion of proceeds would go to charity.
Here are the diamond ring's specifics.
Set with a rectangular-cut diamond, weighing approximately 16.21 carats, flanked on either side by a trapeze-cut diamond, each weighing approximately 1.80 carats, mounted in platinum, in a Lorraine Schwartz pink wood case
USAToday.com reported details of the auction bidding.
A Christie's spokesperson revealed in a statement to USA TODAY that the 16.21-carat Lorraine Schwartz bauble "saw active participation in the room, on the phone banks, and from Christie's LIVE. This impressive diamond ring was sought out by two bidders in the back of the room, one online bidder, and was ultimately won by a bidder on the phone."
Humphries, 28, and Kardashian, 32, were engaged in May 2011 and married in August 2011 while Humphries was a member of the New Jersey Nets. Kardashian filed for divorce in October 2011 and, after some legal wrangling, Humphries eventually received the ring as part of the divorce agreement.
The Nets, who relocated to Brooklyn for the 2012-13 season, sent Humphries to the Celtics in the blockbuster trade that landed Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry in Brooklyn. Humphries averaged 5.8 points and 5.6 rebounds in 18.3 minutes over 65 games for the Nets last season.
Kardashian is now dating rapper and leather jogging pants mogul Kanye West. Hat tip: Beyond The Buzzer
