Fifteen-plus years after he was a first-round NBA draft pick, Ricky Davis was selected in the sixth round of the D-League draft Friday by the Erie BayHawks, the Knicks' affiliate. Back in September, Davis was reportedly one of 10 players invited to a Knicks minicamp.

Davis was the 93rd overall player selected in the D-League draft, which lasted eight rounds. He was one of more than 180 draft-eligible players.

It's been more than three years since Davis, 34, last stepped on an NBA court, as he played his final NBA game for the Clippers on Feb. 9, 2010. Since then, he's signed with teams in Turkey, China, France and Puerto Rico, and he's back for another stint in the American minor league. He previously played for the D-League's Maine Red Claws in 2011-12, averaging 8.5 points and 3.3 rebounds in 11 appearances.

Perhaps best known for missing a shot at his own basket so that he could secure a rebound that would give him a triple-double (the plan didn't work), Davis holds career averages of 13.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists over 12 seasons with the Hornets, Heat, Cavaliers, Celtics, Timberwolves and Clippers. He was the No. 21 overall pick in 1998 after going one-and-done at Iowa.

Back in April, Davis told Grantland.com that he wanted to continue his playing career, but that he was happy with what he accomplished as a pro.

"I would definitely be satisfied," Davis said. "I played 12 years. I got drafted when I was [18]. I think I was one of the top three youngest guys ever playing in the NBA. I'm satisfied with it."
