With a little less than five minutes remaining in the third quarter and Portland leading 68-64, Batum worked on the left wing against Rudy Gay. Driving to his left to take advantage of a sneaky screen from LaMarcus Aldridge, Batum turned the corner easily and had a full beat to size up Valanciunas, who provided help from the weakside. Batum rose high and drifted to his right, absorbing a bump before he extended to finish with an authoritative finish.
Portland held off a strong Toronto run at the end of regulation to survive in overtime.
Gay led the Raptors with 30 points (on 12-for-27 shooting) and 10 rebounds. DeMar DeRozan added 29 points (on 11-for-27 shooting), three rebounds and three assists. Portland improved to 8-2 with the win; Toronto dropped to 4-7 with the loss.
