Jeff Teague knocked down a buzzer-beating jumper to lift the Hawks to a 127-125 double overtime victory over the Cavaliers in Atlanta on Thursday.
With less than 10 seconds remaining on the clock, Teague used a screen from Paul Millsap at the top of the arc to catch Cleveland in a defensive switch. Sizing up Tristan Thompson, Teague faked as if he was going to drive to his left before slamming on the brakes and pulling up for an 18-foot jumper. He got a clean look and the shot rattled in at the buzzer after taking a high bounce on the rim and hitting off the backboard.
Teague finished with a team-high 34 points (on 14-for-24 shooting), 14 assists, three rebounds and three steals in 49 minutes. He also forced the second overtime period by knocking down a long three-pointer.
Millsap added 20 points (on 9-for-17 shooting) and 11 rebounds in 48 minutes for Atlanta.
Kyrie Irving finished with a game-high 40 points (on 17-for-33 shooting), nine assists and four steals in 45 minutes for the Cavaliers. Tristan Thompson added 22 points (on 8-for-13 shooting) and six rebounds in 47 minutes a losing effort.
Atlanta improved to 16-13 with the win; Cleveland dropped to 10-18 with the loss.
