One of the particular quirks of NBA life is the way that breaking news intersects with the very subjects being reported on. It's not uncommon for news to travel more quickly through reporting channels than official league or team ones, which in effect often leaves NBA players to hear of important, life-changing news through media outlets or social media platforms.

That seems to be the case with Toronto's trading of Rudy Gay -- an important decision for the franchise on the whole that made the rounds by word of mouth. Without word from team officials, Raptors players were left to scramble for the details of the deal -- including who among them might also be included -- after learning of it from a Lakers assistant coach. NBA TV Canada captured the episode for Open Gym, beginning at the 9:51 mark in the clip above. We don't see Gay's reaction to the news of his own departure from Toronto, but the segment focuses on the reactions of his Raptors teammates and the toll the news takes on Quincy Acy and Aaron Gray, specifically -- both of whom were shipped along with Gay to Sacramento.
