Video: Clippers, Pistons combine for 19 dunks in one game

The Clippers and Pistons combined for 19 dunks during L.A.'s 112-103 road victory on Monday.

Blame it on the 1 p.m. tip time. Blame it on a young Pistons interior that was over-matched against the league's most prolific rim-assaulting attack. Blame it on a game that saw plenty of less-than-stellar possessions after L.A. raced ahead to a double-digit lead. Blame it on Pistons coach Mo Cheeks.

Whatever the excuse, the NBA rarely sees a game with quite this level of slamming, even when Lob City is involved. All told, L.A. accounted for 14 of the 19 dunks, with DeAndre Jordan leading the way with seven, Blake Griffin adding five and Ryan Hollins chipping in two for good measure. Detroit's five dunks were split between Greg Monroe (3), Kyle Singler and Josh Smith.

Cheeks took the thumping in stride, according to the Associated Press.

"That's the way they play. They pound the ball inside, and they are always looking for the lob," Pistons coach Maurice Cheeks said. "They don't usually get as many of them as they did tonight, but that's what they do."

Jordan finished with 16 points (on 8-for-11 shooting), 21 rebounds and four blocks in the win. Griffin added 25 points (on 9-for-16 shooting), five rebounds and five assists.

Rodney Stuckey led the Pistons with 29 points (on 11-for-20 shooting), four rebounds and four assists in the loss.

The Clippers improved to 29-14 with the win. The Pistons fell to 17-24 with the loss.
