The Nuggets have agreed to trade forward Jordan Hamilton to the Rockets in exchange for point guard Aaron Brooks, according to multiple reports.

RealGM.com and Yahoo Sports report the deal's terms in advance of Thursday's 3 p.m. ET trade deadline.

Hamilton, 23, averaged 6.8 points and 3.4 rebounds in 17.2 minutes in 39 games for the Nuggets this season. The 2011 first-round pick is making $1.2 million this season and he did not have his 2014-15 rookie option picked up, making him an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Brooks, 29, averaged seven points and 1.9 assists in 16.7 minutes in 43 games for the Rockets, stepping in as injuries hit Jeremy Lin and Patrick Beverley. The 2007 first-round pick signed a one-year, minimum-salary contract with Houston last summer. As a result of that one-year deal and the status of Brooks' Bird rights, the guard technically had the ability to veto the deal. He chose not to, and explained his reasoning to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle:

From Houston's perspective, this is a matter of positional rebalancing. With Lin, Beverley and All-Star guard James Harden commanding a vast majority of the backcourt minutes, sending out a third-string point guard for some additional depth on the wing is a logical tweak. The 6-foot-7 Hamilton has yet to make a huge impact during his three-year career but he is regarded as a strong athlete, something the Rockets lacked behind starting small forward Chandler Parsons.

The deal provides Denver some much-needed backcourt depth after a season-ending injury to Nate Robinson and Thursday's agreement to send disgruntled point guard Andre Miller to Washington in a three-team deal with Philadelphia. The 6-foot Brooks should have the opportunity to play steady reserve minutes.

This swap looks straightforward as no future money is involved in the deal and both teams are well under the luxury tax line.
