Washington Redskins 2012 team needs

The Washington Redskins and Mike Shanahan are still looking for that "franchise" player at the quarterback position, as they plan to upgrade from John Beck and Rex Grossman this offseason. With issues also outside of the numbers at the wide receiver position and in the secondary, let's take a look at the rookie prospects that fit the team needs in Washington heading into the NFL Draft.

2011 Record: 5-11First round draft position: No. 6

Top Priority: QB

Robert Griffin III, Baylor: A "plus" athlete who can really throw the football, is a student of the game and is only starting to scratch the surface of his potential. Has as much upside as any prospect in the draft and looks like a future franchise signal caller.

Ryan Tannehill QB, Texas A&M: With such limited experience at the quarterback position it's not a case of where this guy is right now, but where he can be in 2-3 years. I love the talent and the overall production from a player that doesn't have much experience playing from under center as he plays way beyond his years. A potential franchise quarterback in my mind.

Secondary Priority: WR

Kendall Wright WR, Baylor: In the same mold as a number of Pittsburgh Steelers receivers (Mike Wallace, Emmanuel Sanders) and can be effective both inside and out making plays down the field at the next level.

Stephen Hill WR, Georgia Tech: Has a unique skill set, can pluck off his frame, track the football and is the next big time talent from the Georgia Tech program. Is going to need some time to develop, but can come in and track football vertically early on. Has a lot of upside to his game and skill set says he's an NFL starter.

Mid-Tier Priority: CB, S

Josh Norman CB, Coastal Carolina: Talent says he's a top-60 pick, but there are some character concerns that could cause him to fall. Either way he has the talent to quickly match-up with NFL receiver at the next level.

Robert Blanton CB, Notre Dame: Is a nice sized kid with some press man skills and upside. Is a bit scheme limited, but he's a good size/speed athlete who can re-route off the ball. Has some starting upside, but as of now looks like a draftable reserve that needs to play on the outside.

Aaron Henry FS, Wisconsin: A good-sized prospect with some natural cover skills and range, but is still learning the mental nuances of the game. Still developing at the position, but skill set says potential starter.

Kelcie McCray SS, Arkansas State: He does have some natural coverage ability for his size and should run well for the position. There are some questions about desire as a tackler and instincts in the deep half. However, a guy at his size with his athleticism at worst deserves a shot late.
