The Browns have agreed to terms on a two-year contract with former Arizona quarterback Brian Hoyer.

Hoyer, cut earlier this week by the Cardinals, is expected to compete for a backup job behind either Brandon Weeden or Jason Campbell. The Browns also have third-stringer Thaddeus Lewis on their roster.

Hoyer, who is from the Cleveland area, has made just one career start in four NFL seasons. After playing at Michigan State, Hoyer signed with New England in 2009 and spent three seasons behind Tom Brady. He signed with Pittsburgh before being released and was claimed off waivers by the Cardinals.

Earlier Thursday, Browns coach Rob Chudzinski said he was pleased with the progress of his quarterbacks, but did not rule out bringing another one in for training camp.
