Blogger hired by Redskins quits two weeks after taking job

A blogger hired by the Washington Redskins to help with their efforts to preserve the franchise's nickname has resigned just two weeks after taking the job.

Ben Tribbett, a political blogger, wrote in a Twitter post: "I don’t want to be a distraction to the team as the political attacks have shifted towards being personal towards me."

No reason was given for the resignation, and the Redskins have not commented on Tribbett's status with the organization.

In the past year, the Redskins have been urged by many groups -- including the YochaDeheWintun Nation, Oneida Indian Nation and a number of politicans -- to change their controversial name, as many argue that the word redskin is a racial slur. 

The team hired a lobbying firm in May to help with backlash surrounding the potential political fight that could break out over the name. Last month, the United States Patent Office canceled trademark registrations for Redskins, though the team has said that the ruling has no effect on how they conduct business.

Redskins owner Dan Snyder has repeatedly stated he will never change the team name due to the tradition associated with it.
