Donovan McNabb says he's not sure why Jason Garrett still has a job

The blame for the Dallas Cowboys' failures in recent years is often cast upon quarterback Tony Romo. But former Philadelphia Eagles QB and current Fox Sports analyst Donovan McNabb said on a recent episode of Fox Sports Live that Cowboys coach Jason Garrett deserves more scrutiny.

McNabb even went so far as to question how Garrett hasn't yet been fired. More from McNabb, via the Dallas Morning News:

“I’m still figuring out how [Garrett] still has a job at this particular point the way we have continued to see this team just continue to crumble,” he said. “He was behind Troy Aikman and he was behind Dan Marino, too. [Garrett was never behind Marino]. You’re behind hall of famers and you see how they carry the two-minute offense. He’s run the two-minute offense himself as a starting quarterback. The way that they control their offense in certain games, how can you lead games in the middle of the third quarter and you end up losing the game?”

Since taking over the Cowboys in 2010, Garrett has compiled a record of 29-27 and has never finished first in the NFC East.

Garrett's predecessor, Wade Phillips, went 34-22 in three-plus years before being fired in the middle of the 2010 season. McNabb said he doesn't understand how Garrett could perform worse than Phillips but still manage to keep his job.

Last season, the Cowboys finished 8-8 for the third straight year. They haven't made the playoffs since 2009.
