Report: Chris Kluwe to file lawsuit against Vikings on Wednesday

Former Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe plans to file a lawsuit against his former team and special-teams coordinator Mike Priefer on Wednesday, Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press​ reports.

Kluwe said Friday he planned to sue the Vikings after the full report of the team's six-month investigation related to his "wrongful termination" was not released publicly. After the findings were released, Kluwe's lawyer called the report a "scrubbed version of what actually happened."

Kluwe alleges Minnesota cut him in May 2013 due to his vocal support of same-sex marriage. The Vikings said Friday that there was no evidence that Kluwe was released for anything other than "football reasons."

Tomasson reports the lawsuit will be seeking more than $10 million for damages for lost wages due to unfair termination and for defamation of character.​ If any money is won, Kluwe said it will all be donated to LGBT charity groups.

After making the comments on Friday, Kluwe also criticized the Vikings on his Twitter account.

The organization suspended special teams coordinator Mike Priefer three games on Friday night, but his suspension can be reduced to two games if he completes sensitivity training.

Kluwe's lawsuit is expected to be filed in Hennepin County Court.
