The 49ers have placed linebacker NaVorro Bowman on the physically unable to perform list, the team announced Wednesday.
Bowman tore his ACL and MCL in San Francisco's loss to the Seahawks in last season's NFC championship game.
Bowman can come off the PUP list at any time during training camp, but if he remains on the list at the start of the regular season, he would have to sit out the 49ers' first six games.

Bowman is entering his fifth season in the league and is a two-time Pro Bowl and three-time All-Pro selection. He had 120 tackles and five sacks last season.
