The Browns on Wednesday night announced via Twitter the signing of safety Jim Leonhard, reuniting the 31-year-old journeyman with head coach Mike Pettine, the coach he spent the bulk of his 10-year career playing for on the Ravens, Jets and Bills.
Leonhard started 53 of 56 games for Pettine over a four year stretch: with the Ravens in 2008 and then with the Jets from 2009-11. He recorded 254 tackles, 3.5 sacks, four interceptions and 21 passes defensed.
He signed with the Bills and played in Buffalo last season, again with Pettine, and started six of 16 games, recording 41 tackles, five passes defensed and a career-high four interceptions.
