Last season, the San Francisco 49ers went 12-4, finished second in the NFC West and were defeated by the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game. They drafted safety Jimmie Ward in the first round of this year's draft and signed another safety, Antoine Bethea, in free agency.

San Francisco opens the preseason with a road trip to Baltimore the take on the Ravens, followed by two consecutive home games against Denver and San Diego, before finishing up on the road in Houston. The team begins the regular season Sept. 7 on the road against Dallas.
