Forbes: Average NFL franchise value rose 23 percent over last year
The average value of an NFL team is $1.43 billion, according to a report from Forbes.
That value is the largest in the 17 years Forbes has tracked NFL franchise values and marks a 23 percent increase from last year, the biggest jump since 1999.
Recent Forbes studies calculated the average value of NBA franchises to be $634 million and MLB franchises to be $811 million.
Forbes' valuations are based on equity, net debt and "current stadium economics."
The Dallas Cowboys, at $3.2 billion, are the NFL's most valuable franchise for the eighth consecutive year. The next most valuable NFL franchise is the New England Patriots, at $2.6 billion, followed by the Washington Redskins at $2.4 billion, the New York Giants at $2.1 billion and the Houston Texans at $1.85 billion.
The only professional sports franchise worth more than the Cowboys is Spanish soccer club Real Madrid, at $3.4 billion. Barcelona, another Spanish soccer club, matches the Cowboys at $3.2 billion.
