Johnny Manziel: I don't feel like I would have done anything differently
After the announcement, Manziel said he thought he was given a fair chance to win the job and said he wouldn't have gone back and done anything differently.
Manziel also said he didn't "necessarily" feel that he was ready to be the starter.
In Monday night's preseason game against Washington, Manziel completed 7-of-16 passes for 65 yards. He completed 7-of-11 passes for 63 yards in the Browns' preseason opener against Detroit.
“He’s certainly made great strides,” Pettine said. “We are pleased with where he is, and he has shown that he has come a long way in his ability to pick up the playbook, be coachable and lead an offense. We are confident that Johnny is going to have a great future, but we just felt that Brian still had a decided edge on him.”
Cleveland selected Manziel with the No. 22 pick in this year's draft. The 21-year-old won the Heisman Trophy in his redshirt freshman season with the Texas A&M Aggies in 2012.
The Browns went 4-12 and finished in last place in the AFC North last season.
