ASHBURN, Va. (AP) Veteran linebacker Rob Jackson is among the first set of players cut this week by the Washington Redskins as the team gets closer to setting its 53-man roster for the regular season.

Jackson was a seventh-round draft pick in 2008 and played six seasons with the Redskins, mostly as a pass-rush specialist in spot duty. Fourteen of his 15 career starts came in 2012, when Brian Orakpo missed most of the year with a shoulder injury.

Jackson became expendable when the Redskins drafted Trent Murphy in the second round of this year's draft.

The Redskins on Sunday also waived linebacker Adrian Robinson, fullback Stephen Campbell, receivers Cody Hoffman and Rashad Lawrence, linebacker Jeremy Kimbrough, safety Ross Madison and defensive ends Jake McDonough and Jeremy Towns.
