Houston Texans rookie linebacker Jadeveon Clowney is expected to play Week 1 against the Washington Redskins, Brian Smith of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Texans coach Bill O’Brien said Monday the rookie is day-to-day.

Clowney was held out of practice on Thursday after a helmet-to-helmet collision with a Broncos player and did not play in Saturday's preseason game.

In June, Clowney missed time after having surgery to repair a sports hernia.

Washington and Houston play on Sept. 7 at NRG Stadium.
