49ers' Kaepernick, Stevie Johnson say their connection isn't clicking yet

With less than two weeks before the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and new wide receiver Stevie Johnson still haven't found their chemistry.

Johnson, who was acquired from the Buffalo Bills in May for a conditional 2015 fourth-round pick, said his unusual style of route-running requires time for quarterbacks to grow accustomed.

“So I think that's something where it took a little bit longer just to get used to his body language because he had some unorthodox things that he does,”  Kaepernick said to the Sacramento Bee. “But ultimately his separation is there, he's getting open.”

Big things are expected from Johnson, who will join Michael Crabtree, Anquan Boldin and tight end Vernon Davis as primary targets for Kaepernick this season.

“I would say we're getting close. I can't say we're completely on,” said Johnson, who caught 52 passes last season. “It's only been a couple months. It's getting there. I can't say we're clicking right now but we're getting there.”
