The Giants will likely place guard Geoff Schwartz on short-term injured reserve, according to a report from Kimberly Jones of the NFL Network.

Schwartz dislocated his right big toe in the Giants' preseason game against the Jets on Aug. 22. The team announced Tuesday he was in a walking boot and was considered "week-to-week."

Schwartz signed a four-year contract with the Giants this offseason.

The Giants have several changes on the offensive line this season. Kevin Boothesigned with the Raiders as a free agent; David Diehl and Chris Snee both retired; and David Baas was released after failing a physical. Tackles Will Beatty and Justin Pugh are returning this season.

With Schwartz sidelined, rookie Weston Richburg, a second-round pick from Colorado State, will start at left guard.

If Schwartz is placed on short-term IR, he would be eligible to return for New York's Week 9 game against the Colts on Monday Night Football.
