Saints cornerback Champ Bailey was cut on Saturday as the team trimmed its roster to 53 players, according to NFL Network reporter Albert Breer. The NFL deadline for teams to announce their regular season roster was 4 p.m. Saturday.
The 12-time Pro Bowler, who turned 36 earlier this summer, has 52 career interceptions, third-most among active players behind Ed Reed and Charles Woodson. He joined the Saints this offseason after spending 15 years with the Redskins and Broncos.

It's unclear at this point whether other teams will look to sign the veteran cornerback or if this will spell the end of the road for Bailey. He had told Sports Illustrated's Joan Niesen earlier this week that he plans on helping the younger Saints players develop on the field, saying he wants to "give them all that I know."
