The Atlanta Falcons finished last season with a 4-12 record and a tie with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for last place in the NFC South. The team was plagued by injuries to wide receivers Julio Jones and Roddy White throughout the season, and their rushing attack ranked last in the NFL with 77.9 yards per game.

During the offseason, the Falcons acquired guard Jon Asamoah and defensive lineman Tyson Jackson from Kansas City, as well as nose tackle Paul Soliai from the Miami Dolphins. Atlanta lost linebacker Sean Weatherspoon to a knee injury during the offseason.

In the 2014 NFL draft, the Falcons selected offensive tackle Jake Matthews and defensive lineman Ra'Shede Hageman with their first two picks.

The Falcons open the season with a home game against the New Orleans Saints in Week 1.
