Arizona Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said Wednesday that defensive back Tyrann Mathieu is "getting very, very close" to playing in a game.

Mathieu, who tore his ACL in December, was activated from the physically unable to perform list in August. Mathieu did not play in Sunday's win over the San Diego Chargers.

The 22-year-old recorded 65 tackles and two interceptions as a rookie in 2013.

The Cardinals play the Giants in East Rutherford, N.J., on Sunday.
