Cardinals place Jonathan Dwyer on reserve/non-football illness list
The Arizona Cardinals have placed running back Jonathan Dwyer on the reserve/non-football illness list, the team announced Thursday.
The Cardinals will continue to pay Dwyer, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. By placing Dwyer on the reserve/non-football illness list, Arizona had the option not to pay the running back.
Dwyer was booked into jail Wednesday on charges of aggravated assault causing a fracture, aggravated assault involving a minor, criminal damage and preventing the use of a phone in an emergency and assault. He posted bail on Thursday morning and was released from police custody. Arizona had previously deactivated him from all team activities following the allegations.
According to the police report, Dwyer headbutted his wife and broke her nose after she refused his sexual advances, then punched her in the face the next day.
Police said he hid in a bathroom and threatened to kill himself in front of his wife and their child if she told police about the assault. According to Rapoport, the Cardinals are evaluating his mental health after the suicide mentions in the police report.
The Cardinals also announced that they have cut running back Chris Rainey from the practice squad, brought running back Jalen Parmele to the active roster and signed former Colts running back Kerwynn Williams to fill Rainey's spot.
