ASHBURN, Va. (AP) The Washington Redskins have signed cornerback Richard Crawford and safety Jamarca Sanford.

The Redskins made the moves Monday to bolster the defense and special teams. They replace linebacker Gabe Miller and nose tackle Robert Thomas, who were released Saturday.

Crawford was a Redskins seventh-round pick in 2012 and played in 10 games as a rookie. He was set to be the team's punt returner in 2013 before suffering a major knee injury in preseason.

He returned for training camp this year but was among the final cuts at the end of preseason.

Sanford started 44 starts over five seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, but nagging injuries limited him during training camp. He was placed on injured reserve before the regular season, then later released with an injury settlement.
