Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs is out for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons, the team announced Friday

Briggs left Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers with a rib injury and has since sat out three consecutive practices with soreness.

From CBS Chicago:

The Bears haven’t revealed the full extent of Briggs’ injury, but for now, it doesn’t sound as if he has broken ribs.

“I don’t know,” coach Marc Trestman said. “He’s sore. That’s really where it’s at, he’s sore. There really hasn’t been any indication of (broken ribs).”

Briggs' injury is another hit to the Bears' already battered defense, which includes linebackers Shea McClellin (hand), Jon Bostic (back) and D.J. Williams (neck). Briggs and McClellin have also been ruled out for Sunday. Bostic is listed as questionable and Williams as probable on the team's injury report.

BANKS: Week 6 NFL Picks

The seven-time Pro Bowler missed seven games last season due to a shoulder fracture. He has 22 combined tackles and one interception in five games this season.

The Bears are 2-3 and fourth in the NFC North. They play the Falcons in Atlanta on Sunday.
