Falcons lose both starting safeties vs. Carolina
ATLANTA (AP) The Atlanta Falcons lost starting safeties Dwight Lowery and Kemal Ismael by the midway point of the third quarter Sunday against Carolina.
Lowery left with a knee injury in the second quarter. Ishmael hurt his hamstring in the third. Both players were helped off the field.
Dezmen Southward, a third-round draft pick, and Sean Baker, a former practice squad player, replaced Lowery and Ishmael.
It marked the third starting safety the Falcons lost in the last eight days. William Moore's season ended with a shoulder injury in last week's win at New Orleans.
