The New York Giants have requested an interview with Washington Redskins defensive backs coach Raheem Morris for the team's vacant defensive coordinator position, The Washington Post's Mike Jones reports.

The Giants fired defensive coordinator Perry Fewell on Wednesday after New York finished the season No. 22 in scoring defense and No. 29 in yards allowed. Fewell had been the team's coordinator since 2010, including a win in Super Bowl XLVI.

Morris, 38, joined the Redskins in 2012 and is a candidate for Washington's defensive coordinator position after it fired Jim Haslett. The Redskins defense struggled this season and finished No. 20 in yards allowed and No. 29 in points allowed.

Before joining the Redskins, Morris was head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for three seasons, compiling a 17-31 record from 2009 through 2011.

The Giants announced last month that they will bring back coach Tom Coughlin and general manager Jerry Reese in 2015. New York finished 6-10 and missed the playoffs for the third straight season since winning Super Bowl XLVI.
