Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett said he thinks the team's defense is currently "No. 1" of this era, Tyler Dunne of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Last season, the Seahawks' defense helped the team win a Super Bowl, and this year has helped lead it to the NFC title game.

From the Journal Sentinel:

"I think we're No. 1 right now in our era. Its all based off era," Bennett said. "Everybody's different. Right now, we feel like we're the best and we're playing the best. I feel like we're No. 1 right now."

Bennett certainly has a strong case. The Seahawks led the NFL in scoring defense for the third year in a row in 2014, the first team to do so since the Minnesota Vikings from 1969-1971. Of course, Seattle's 35-point drubbing of the Denver Broncos in last year's Super Bowl came not only against a prolific offense, but also against one of the best quarterbacks in league history in Peyton Manning

BENOIT: Conference title game breakdown

The Seahawks' defense will have another chance to prove its dominance Sunday, when it faces Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game. Seattle defeated Green Bay in the first game of the season, holding the Packers to only 16 points and Rodgers to fewer than 200 yards passing.
