Colts waive Trent Richardson after 2 disappointing seasons

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Trent Richardson's time with the Colts is over after two disappointing seasons.

The former top-five draft pick acquired in a trade with Cleveland that cost Indianapolis a first-round pick in 2013 was waived Thursday after the running back played just one snap in three playoff games last season.

Richardson rushed for 977 yards and six touchdowns in two seasons, and had just 1 yard on four carries in three playoff games over those two years.

His future with the Colts was in doubt after he was inactive for a divisional game against Denver last year, then didn't even make the trip to New England for the AFC championship game. Indianapolis lost to the Patriots 45-7.

Taken third overall in the 2012 draft by the Browns, Richardson rushed for 950 yards and was in the top five in touchdowns rushing with 11. But Cleveland abruptly shipped him to Indianapolis two games into the 2013 season.

Richardson lost his starting job to Daniel Herron late last season. Herron is entering the final year of his contract.

The 24-year-old Richardson has 2,032 yards rushing and 17 touchdowns in three seasons.

Indianapolis also waived running back Michael Hill on Thursday.
